Poem of the Day - Today

Today by A.S. Washington

I don't feel sadness this morning,
Not a measure of torment,
Then that makes today a good day,
And I wish it to remain this way.

Thus whether I encounter their woe,
Or a ridiculous fool who's rude,
I'll smile at the sun or the rain clouds,
Like a refrigerator tenant, I'll keep my cool.

Do not seek in dampening my mood,
You'll only deeply dampen your own.
Treat me as the afflicted leprous, and leave me alone,
I'll smile, I'll wave and thus bid you, so long,

For I am happy this morning,
Not a measure of torment,
Today will be a good day,
Today will be a good day, I feel it, I've sworn it.
