One of the biggest rivalries in college basketball is Duke vs North Carolina. I am a die hard North Carolina Tar Heels fan, and I love to see anyone beat Duke. I cheer hard for teams I have no passion for when Duke is playing. So you can imagine I cheer harder and harder and scream and yell and pump my fist when my boys dressed in Carolina Blue and white are taking on the Blue Devils. Going into last night's game, Duke had beaten us three out of the last four times we've played. On January 20th, the Tar Heels were just 11-7 after losing to Virginia. We weren't looking like a team poised to make the NCAA Tournament unless we won the ACC Tournament which is a tall task. Going into the game against
Duke, my boys had won seven consecutive games.
With Duke being ranked #5 in the country, they were the favorite and many analyst and fans had them winning the game. However, with hard-nosed defense, will, and determination; my Tar Heels were able to overcome a small Duke lead and eventually win the game by 8 points in regulation. With a roster only consisting of four seniors, if the team continues on this trajectory we can be really good going into tournament play, and even be highly ranked coming into next year. That's all hope and conjecture so it really doesn't matter. And as always, no matter our record, a victory over the Duke Blue Devils is like winning a little national championship each time it happens. That's what a rivalry game is all about. We play Duke again in regular season play on March 8th, but for now we're one up on em. Hahahahahaha!
