Support Reading and Literary Programs In New Jersey's Largest City

Do you believe it's important for kids to learn to read?

If you believe as I do, read no more and help me support literacy programs at Boys & Girls Club of Newark

Maybe you need a little convincing.

If you're anything like me, you enjoy the beauty of the written word. You enjoy curling up on the sofa with a good book and getting lost in its pages.

My love for books was ignited during my childhood when my mother taught me how to read and put Dr. Seuss in my hands. I thank her each day for the gift of reading and literacy. My journey with books started at home. Stories allowed me to escape into imagined worlds of wonder and intrigue; magic, dragons, and knights with swords and shields.

Today I am an author because of those stories, and I read even more than I did when I was a kid. So what are you waiting for? Help me to create lifelong readers and lovers of the written word.

Still need to be convinced?

Let me try to spark your interest further.

Not only is reading an enjoyable experience that allows us an escape to so many imagined places and
worlds. Reading is fundamental. Sure that's cliche, but it's an old maxim that remains true. We read highway signs so we don't get lost. Maybe with the aid of GPS programs or devices, but we've got to be able to read the directions on our GPS. We read lease agreements and mortgage contracts, our pay checks, the letters in the mail that makes us smile or the ones we tear up in annoyance. All of our lives we are reading. Even the amazing people who can do complex mathematical computations can't escape the need to read. Success begins with a book and with every letter of the alphabet.

At Boys & Girls Club of Newark, members are provided with opportunities that help them succeed and excel as contributing members of society. The Club serves the kids who need them most, and so many kids in the City of Newark need the gift of literacy. Help me in ensuring that the youth of today are the competent leaders of tomorrow.

Give the gift of reading today.

I hope I've been able to convince you. I myself am a product of the Boys & Girls Club of Newark. Through this wonderful organization, my siblings and I were afforded so many opportunities that helped to shape us into the people we are today. Help this great organization support the kids who need them most by helping to fund awesome literacy programs at the Clubhouse.
